I am a keen runner. I run about 800 miles a year and have done the Bristol 10k three times, improving my time each year. I have also done the Bradley Stoke 10k and the Bristol Half Marathon twice.
In December 2011 I was forced to stop running due to bad pain in my left heel. I visited the doctor in January who diagnosed plantar fasciitis, inflammation of the connective tissue on the sole of the foot.
I have bought Fitflop trainers, orthotic shoe inserts and tried rubbing in Ibuleve for 3 weeks, but 4 months later, it is still with me.
On our holiday at Burnham on Sea at the end of March 2012, I achieved some very steady runs of up to 2 miles, and although the pain is still there, I feel that at last there has been an improvement.
The next step is to buy a new pair of running shoes from Up and Running and try some more short gentle runs. I will do this after Easter 2012.
I bought a pair of Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12 running shoes and have tried some short runs, up to 4 miles. My heel is still not fixed. The next step is to arrange a doctors appointment and get put on the physiotherapist waiting list.
